DNA Design is one of Wellington’s most well-known and respected graphic design firms. They required a fitout for their Wellington office that would support the constantly changing needs and collaborative nature of creative work.

The existing building shell had an inherently strong character, with a warm interior, polished wooden floors, exposed steel trusses, exposed brick walls, and a sawtooth roof. The fitout design creates an adaptable, contemporary working environment through simple, clean white frames that form structural bones within the visible envelope of the original character space.

The fitout is ordered into two main precincts: the ‘work-zone’ and the ‘street’. Tall white reflective fins create a permeable boundary between these two areas. Exposed services are painted white, visually drawing them into the rest of the fitout while retaining their industrial character. Monochromatic furniture and soft-tone feature colours complete the design, creating the sense of a blank canvas, ready to be adapted as needed for creative work, that also provides an engaging contrast to the warmth of the brick and timber.

Set within this white framework, selected details add a sense of visual richness to the space. Thick chocolate-coloured carpet adds softness and luxuriousness, while a dark wood entranceway frames a bespoke display case.
