Studio Pacific was commissioned to design this new six-floor fitout for Deloitte in the former Wool House in central Wellington. As an established professional service organisation with over 100 years’ experience, Deloitte’s fitout needed to reflect the qualities of trustworthiness and excellence associated with the company.
The Wool House building’s idiosyncratic plan forms unusually shaped internal spaces; rather than compete with the complexity of the building, the fitout needed to be kept visually and spatially clear and uncomplicated. An immaculate attention to detail permeates the fitout, with apparently simple surfaces revealing their subtle beauty and solidity on closer inspection. On the top floor, a generous reception area features dark timber wall panelling and a pale gold solid timber floor, achieving a balance between gravitas and warmth. An elegant custom-made feature wall, comprising square timber panels angled to reflect different planes of light, adds texture to the space.
Deloitte wanted to avoid a generic, placeless approach, requesting that the fitout convey a sense of local identity. Each level is identified by a distinct, specially commissioned supergraphic of an aspect of Wellington, reinforcing a local identity that is meaningful while remaining contemporary and intriguing. Native timbers are used throughout the fitout and views of Wellington are maximised.
