Wellington City Councillors have voted unanimously to proceed with the new Convention and Exhibition Centre designed by Studio Pacific.
The new building will be located across the road from Te Papa and will host exhibitions and multi-day conventions for up to 1500 people.
Studio Pacific drew inspiration for the design of the building from Wellington's harbour, its dramatic weather and Māori mythology, in particular Maui's head of the fish: Te Ūpoko o te Ika.
Once it is completed in 2020, the centre will achieve a five-star Greenstar rating.
