The first stage of Nelson Airport’s new terminal opened to the public yesterday.
This milestone marks 60% completion of the overall redevelopment of Nelson Airport, which is due to be completed in 2019.
Designed by Studio Pacific, the new terminal will meet the requirements of the airport’s anticipated growth and enhance the gateway experience for visitors to the Nelson Tasman region. The building is designed to reflect the region through use of locally sourced timber, and features an innovative folded plate roof structure that refers to the surrounding mountains.
Stage Two of the redevelopment will now begin, with the existing old terminal due to be demolished to allow for construction of the second part of the new building.
