Studio Pacific is proud to announce that the Peka Peka to Ōtaki Expressway has been shortlisted for the 2024 Resene NZILA Awards.
Peka Peka to Ōtaki Expressway has been shortlisted in the Transport category of the 2024 Resene NZILA Awards. The awards programme is about celebrating the creativity, technical capability and diversity of skills that landscape architects provide as integrators of landscape, people and place in Aotearoa.
Designed as a ‘green corridor’, the project is a 13km section of the new Kāpiti Expressway between Peka Peka and Ōtaki that incorporates seven precast concrete beam road bridges, two steel beam road bridges, two concrete underpasses, five concrete pedestrian bridges and several large culverts.
As Urban Designers and Landscape Architects for the project, Studio Pacific’s role included co-design of the bridges, as well as extensive consultation, detailed planting schemes and site observation for over 750,000 native plants, development of wetlands and enhancement of ecologically significant areas, integration of artworks and design work for the impressive gateway sculptures either side of Ōtaki.
The shortlisted projects will be visited by a jury including panel chair Dr Diane Menzies ONZM (Rongowhakaata, Aitanga a Mahak), Michael Hawes of Warren & Mahoney, Matt Lester of Rough Milne Mitchell, Kara Scott of Isthmus, Anne Wilkins of Novo Group, and guest judge Haley Hooper of WSP.
The jury begins their tour of shortlisted projects this month and will conclude deliberations in early April. Category winners, awards of excellence, and supreme awards will be announced at the 2024 Resene NZILA Awards Gala Dinner on 17 May in Wellington.
Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou, congratulations to Ngā Hapū o Ōtaki, Waka Kotahi – New Zealand Transport Agency, Kāpiti Coast District Council, our collaborators, the project team, and all the other projects shortlisted for the 2024 Resene NZILA Awards!
