Tākina, Wellington's new Convention and Exhibition Centre, sets a new standard as the first convention centre in Aotearoa to achieve a prestigious 5-Star Green Star Custom Tool Certified Built Rating by the NZ Green Building Council.
We are pleased to announce Tākina, the Wellington Convention and Exhibition Centre, has been awarded a 5-Star Green Star Built certification – the first convention centre in Aotearoa to achieve this standard.
The certification awarded by the NZ Green Building Council is an important project milestone for Tākina.
A 5-Star Green Star NZ Custom Tool Certified Rating represents New Zealand excellence for environmental sustainability and leadership in green building.
The certification recognises that Tākina is designed, built and operated in a way that minimises negative impacts on the environment and the people visiting and working in the building.
Tākina’s green star design features include:
– Enhanced thermal insulation and high-performance double glazing from the innovative SEFAR system, ensuring energy efficiency.
– Smart, automatically controlled LED lighting, along with air conditioning and ventilation systems that improve thermal comfort.
– Water-efficient fittings and a rainwater harvesting system that decrease potable water use by 30%.
– Timber sourced from sustainable forestry practices.
All of which add up to create a 66% operational carbon reduction and 60% energy consumption saving when benchmarked to a comparable new build.
Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou, congratulations to Wellington City Council, Willis Bond, Dunning Thornton Consultants, Beca, LT McGuinness, and all those involved in the project.
Achieving this rating showcases our collective commitment to environmental sustainability and leadership in creating better buildings.
