We are absolutely delighted that Park House has been awarded a Silver Pin at this year’s Best Design Awards.
The best in New Zealand design were honoured and celebrated at a prestigious awards ceremony held at the Viaduct Events Centre in Tāmaki Makaurau on Friday 11 October.
Created and organised by Toi Manahau Designers Institute of New Zealand (DINZ), The Best Design Awards is an annual showcase of creative excellence in graphic, spatial, product, digital and moving image design from across Aotearoa and around the world.
We’re delighted to share that Park House was awarded a Silver Pin. This accolade highlights the home’s thoughtful design and seamless integration with its stunning surroundings, reflecting our commitment to creating spaces that balance form and function.
Located in the picturesque town of Wānaka, Park House was designed as a retreat for multiple families during holidays. Its warm, welcoming environment draws inspiration from the rugged charm of mountain huts while maintaining a refined aesthetic.
The design process behind Park House was rooted in close collaboration with the clients and a deep understanding of the local environment, ensuring the home would both respect and enhance the landscape. Our focus on sustainability is reflected in the material choices and energy efficiency, a testament to our ongoing commitment to responsible, thoughtful architecture.
The home's design consists of pavilions connected by a central gallery, offering a balanced mix of communal and intimate spaces—ideal for both social gatherings and quiet reflection. Externally, horizontal timber cladding paired with corrugated sheet steel adds texture and depth, grounding the structure within its natural environment.
A standout feature of the home is its carefully positioned glazing, framing specific views of the landscape and capturing the shifting light, enhancing the home’s overall atmosphere. The landscaping is intentionally restrained, allowing native plants to naturally integrate with the built form.
