Studio Pacific to Present at Timber Construct and WoodWorks 2025

Studio Pacific Principal Patrick Thompson will present Air New Zealand’s Hangar 4 at two major timber construction conferences this spring – Timber Construct 2025 in Melbourne and WoodWorks 2025 in Rotorua.

Senior Principal and Executive Director Marc Woodbury will also speak at WoodWorks 2025, offering a broader industry view on what it takes to get mass timber projects across the line.

These back-to-back events bring together architects, engineers, contractors, and suppliers to explore the future of timber construction. With a focus on real-world case studies, they provide an opportunity to share insights into the design and delivery of large-scale, low-carbon buildings across Australasia.

Timber Construct 2025 – Melbourne

On 13–14 October, Patrick will join project partners NZ Strong, Dunning Thornton, and XLam to present Hangar 4 as a feature case study at Timber Construct – an international conference hosted by the Timber Development Association, focused on engineered timber and mass wood construction.

The case study will explore key lessons from the project, including design decisions, material selection, consultant coordination, and the realities of delivering mass timber at scale.

Hangar 4 is one of Aotearoa’s largest mass timber projects. A bold, technically challenging facility, it reflects both the operational needs of Air New Zealand and a shared commitment to innovation in timber construction. The project demonstrates what’s possible when low-carbon materials, precise engineering, and integrated design come together.

WoodWorks 2025 – Rotorua

Following the Melbourne event, Patrick will again co-present the project alongside NZ Strong at WoodWorks 2025 – Aotearoa’s national conference on engineered wood, organised by the WoodWorks NZ programme to support industry growth and capability in commercial timber construction.

Taking place on 12–13 November, the conference brings together over 200 professionals working across commercial and multi-residential timber buildings. With sessions focused on BIM, sustainability, and project delivery, WoodWorks supports local knowledge sharing and cross-sector collaboration.

Marc Woodbury will also speak at the event. Drawing on his 25 years of timber design experience, Marc’s talk – Getting Mass Timber Across the Line: Advocacy in the Decision-Making Process – explores how client conversations, data, proof points, and industry partnerships can help tip the balance in favour of low-carbon construction.

Contributing to the Timber Conversation

Studio Pacific’s contribution to both events reflects our long-standing commitment to sustainable architecture, timber innovation, and sector collaboration. From technical delivery to strategic advocacy, we’re proud to support the shift toward smarter, lower-carbon building in Aotearoa, and we look forward to connecting with others contributing to this work across the country and beyond.
