Hangar 4 and Executive Wing Level 3 recognised at the 2026 Master Builders Commercial Project Awards

Studio Pacific Architecture is proud to share the success of Air New Zealand’s Hangar 4 and Parliamentary Service’s Executive Wing Level 3 Ministerial Suites, recently recognised in Tāmaki Makaurau at the 2026 Commercial Project Awards.

Setting the benchmark for excellence in commercial construction, the Commercial Project Awards recognise work that demonstrates quality, innovation, and collaborative delivery across the building industry. Entries are assessed by a panel of industry judges, with a focus on construction excellence, problemsolving, teamwork, and the successful delivery of complex projects. Five awards were received over the two entries, in an outcome that reflects the strength of long-standing relationships grounded in shared ambition and deeply collaborative project teams.

Air New Zealand Hangar 4

Entered into the Infrastructure Category, Hangar 4 was recognised as a Gold Award Winner, National Category Winner, and Innovation Award Winner.

The judges commended the project for delivering the largest singlespan timber aircraft hangar in the Southern Hemisphere, with the form driven entirely by the operational needs of the aircraft it accommodates. Designed to house one widebody and two narrowbody jets simultaneously, the hangar is a highly practical response to a demanding brief.

A key feature acknowledged by the judges was the use of 98m timber arches, a bold structural choice that delivers both cost and long-term maintenance advantages over steel. Their design and formation were highlighted as standout achievements, alongside the project’s response to challenging site conditions, complex slab services, and advanced building systems designed for resilience and efficiency.

Congratulations to NZ Strong on their recognition and awards. We’re also grateful to Air New Zealand for their trust and leadership, and to our consultants and delivery partners whose expertise and collaboration were critical to achieving this outcome.

Executive Wing – Level 3 Ministerial Suites

Entered into the Commercial Fitout Category, the Executive Wing Level 3 Ministerial Suites was recognised as a Gold Award Winner and National Category Winner.

The judges recognised the project for making better use of available space while delivering a level of finish appropriate to one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most significant buildings. The project focused on improving the efficiency and function of the workplace, creating an environment that is both practical and refined.

Particular recognition was given to the retention of heritage timbers, which preserve the character of the space and bring warmth and craft to the fitout. When paired with carefully selected, high-quality New Zealand-made finishes, the result is a polished and thoughtful interior that respects the building’s history while supporting its contemporary use.

This award reflects the skill and care of everyone involved. Congratulations to the contractor Alaska and their subcontractors. We also extend our thanks to Parliamentary Service and our project partners for their commitment to quality and shared respect for the architectural and cultural importance of the Beehive.
