Launch Bay Masterplanning and Urban Design
Launch Bay in Hobsonville is an integrated neighbourhood and landscape masterplan featuring around 310 residential units over 4.1 hectares.
The site is characterised by an existing coastal edge reserve, a number of existing buildings from its earlier use as an air base, historic open space and a number of established existing trees.
The masterplan is based on a number of considered design principles that aim to celebrate the Oval, reflect the site’s history and develop a sense of place that promotes community interaction and ownership.
The precinct incorporates multi-unit apartments, semi-detached and freestanding houses, heritage houses, as well as bespoke interventions such as sculpture, children’s playgrounds and a sense of playfulness, while maintaining a robust material palette and attention to detailing.
A focus on the integration of walkways and laneways creates a neighbourhood made for walking, cycling, driving and sharing, with greater opportunities for neighbours to bump into each other.
